Funny for Honor Emotes Raider for Honor Axe Emote Gifs
"Sometimes a viking is born who carries the spark of gods: Raiders, we call them. It is a name that can summon armies. Ruthless, fearless, made for battle. The Dane Axe was the mightiest weapon of our ancestors; they wield it without mercy. The moment of a viking's death is chosen by fate. So what use have they of armor? Or of fear?"
For the single player campaign character, see: The Raider
Raiders are a playable hero class in For Honor.
Overview
Fighting with heavy two-handed axes, Raiders are always found at the forefront of the Viking horde, hacking through enemies crazy enough to stand in their way. They are clad in leather and iron rings, with their bodies covered by tattoos – souvenirs from past battles, which they bear proudly. These relentless warriors embody the Viking ideals: boundless bravery, spotless integrity, and unbridled passion. They know the moment of their death has already been chosen upon birth, so no Viking fears to follow their destiny. Of course, they all intend to bring as many foes with them as they can.[1]
Armor
The Raider's armor is composed of a blend of toughened leather, thick animal furs, and few pieces of metal plates, and have more of their body exposed than any other class in the game. So much so that it could be said that the Raider wears no armor at all, effectively sacrificing defense in exchange for mobility to assist in their preferred tactic of charging recklessly headfirst into a fight.
Weapon
Long Axe - Long axes have massive heads mounted on long, polished wooden handles. It is one of the most recognizable and fearsome weapons of the Vikings. It doubles as a deadly weapon of war and a tool to smash through whatever stands in the way between raiders and the loot they seek.
Dane Axe
Trivia
- The Raider's weapon is called the Dane Axe, and is even referred to as such in the Raider trailer, despite being longer and featuring a thicker head than a traditional one. Strangely, it is called the 'Long Axe' on the For Honor website.
- While all promotional materials feature the Raider (and other Viking Heroes) wearing a horned helmet, there is no historical proof that Vikings have actually worn such helmets in battle.
- Until Season 12, Raider (together with Valkyrie) were not able to go without Ornaments, which in a way reinforced this idea that Vikings had horned helmets. Oddly enough, Warlord did not possess this restriction, although he is another Viking Hero who wears a helmet and can have horns for Ornaments.
- Some early historians suspected Viking berserkers (berserkir) of charging into battle bare-chested (interpreting "ber-" as bare, making "berserkir" to mean "bare-shirt" or "no shirt"). Such interpretations have largely been abandoned by modern historians, although pop media continues to interpret a number of Vikings or Viking-influenced characters as unarmoured if not outright shirtless.
- The Raider likely is influenced by this trend.
- The Raider is the only Vanguard Hero in the game so far who does not wield a sword.
- Raider together with Valkyrie are featured in Ubisoft's free-to-play RPG game Might Quest, announced on February 14th, 2020. A dedicated blog post was made for this addition, which can be read here.
- Raider also was featured in the fault-based racing game Trials Rising during its 4th Season, Expedition to the North Pole. Raider appears in the form of a costume players can equip in the game. See the trailer here.
Emotes & Executions
- A number of Raider's Executions are references to wrestling moves: the Gutbuster, the Chokeslam, and the Viking Press Backbreaker.
- The Execution, "Aegir's Tide" is in reference to Ægir, the divine personification of the sea in Norse Mythology.
- The Execution, "It's a Norse Trap" may be a reference to the popular quote "It's a Trap" from the science fiction action movie series Star Wars.
- The emote "White Water" references to the term for when waters in rapids turn white due to high turbulence, and the act of boating on such waters.
- The signature, "Raid on Me" is a reference to a meme video posted by Youtube user jeb192 on January 31, 2017, which likely uses footage from the game's open beta since the video was posted two weeks before For Honor's official release. The video displays Raider performing the Shove Off emote, edited to be in-beat with the song, "Call on Me" by Eric Prydz.

Moveset
General
- Renown: Vanguard - Earn more Renown when controlling objectives, either by capturing or defending them, to unlock your feats in a match.
- Revenge Mode - Boosts Damage and Health. All Attacks are Uninterruptible. Parry and Throws knock enemies down. Attacks are Auto-Parried on activation.
- Defense: Static - Your Guard Stance remains active in the direction you designate, even when performing a Dodge.
Hero Specific
- Uninterruptible Chain Heavies - The second and finishing Heavy Attacks of a chain are Uninterruptible, with the Uninterruptible Stance starting up earlier into the attack than most instances of Uninterruptible.
- Stampede Charge - Hold MMB (PC), X (XB1), ■ (PS4) after picking up a target to continue sprinting. Upon releasing MMB (PC), X (XB1), ■ (PS4), the target will be thrown and knocked down.
- Wall Stun - Stampede Charge a target into a wall to pin them and deal a bit of damage.
- Bystander Collateral - Enemies that Raider charges into while Stampede Charging will be knocked down. For every enemy knocked aside, the target of Stampede Charge will lose some Stamina.
- Controlled Throw - Hold MMB (PC), X (XB1), ■ (PS4) upon attempting a Side or Back Throw to keep a hold of the enemy while swinging them around. Release to throw them in the desired direction. Raider can only swing the Target in one rotational direction, and for up to a little less than a full turn around (roughly 330 degrees).
- Guardbreak into Stampede Charge - Forward Throw performs as a guaranteed Stampede Charge on the target, having the same functions as the move.
- Chain Starters - Raider's Storm, Storming Tap and Feinted Tap all function as a Chain Opener.
- Raider's Storm - Zone Attack is Unblockable and comes from the left guard.
- Raider's Fury - Raider can perform a Zone Attack after a Chain Opener or the Second Chain Attack. Attempting a Zone Attack in this manner changes the Zone Attack into Raider's Fury. Raider's Fury switches the attack to come from the right guard, deal more damage and cost less Stamina.
- Raider Zone Cancels - Cancel Raider's Storm and Raider's Fury during their Startup with B (XB1), E (PC) or O (PS4), or soft-feint into Feinted Tap with the Light Input.
- Executable Zone - Unlike other Zone Attacks, Raider is able to initiate an Execution if Raider's Storm or Raider's Fury deals the finishing blow.
- Feint to Guard Break - Press MMB (PC), X (XB1), ■ (PS4) during the start up of a Heavy Attack, Raider's Storm or Raider's Fury to feint into a Guard Break.
- Storming Tap - Storming Tap deals damage and always comes from the Top Guard. It is Enhanced, thus will not bounce if blocked unless it is Superior Blocked.
- Feint into Tap - Cancel any Heavy Attack, Raider's Storm or Raider's Fury with a Light Attack during their start up to feint into a Feinted Tap. Feint Tap deals reduced damage compared to the normal Storming Tap.
